Horns and Screams: The City in Classical Music

The city with its chaotic movement, outstanding energy, temptations and dangers was at times either deified or vilified by the music. At the lecture, we will have the opportunity to both discuss and listen to different stages of this love-hate relationship, ranging from futuristic noise anthems and the city of apocalyptic slums through the lens of expressionists to flirtations with jazz and simple genres, and the music of engines and machines heralded by urbanists.
